And it\u2019s easy to see why. It can build blogs, shops, and much more. And because of its code-free interface, it\u2019s possible to create a website without learning HTML, JavaScript, CSS, or PHP. However, that doesn\u2019t mean that you won\u2019t have to learn anything. Some users find the learning curve for WordPress significantly steeper than for drag-and-drop builders, like Wix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, should you use WordPress for your author\u2019s page? Some of the advantages of WordPress for authors are its:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cost: It\u2019s a free and powerful content management system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simplicity: You can use it without knowing how to code<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Appearance: You can get an amazing look without being a designer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those are three pretty strong points in favor of WordPress. Let\u2019s look at them more closely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A free, powerful CMS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WordPress makes blogging tools, like comments, automatic archiving, sorting by categories, and tagging available to everyone. Instead of working with half-a-dozen third parties to get the tools you need, you can quickly and easily download a plugin. That\u2019s why we use it for our blog!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A simple way to customize your author\u2019s page<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using WordPress.org\u2019s built-in Theme Editor, you can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Add or remove elements (like images and forms)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change colors, fonts, themes, and templates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implement special features with third-party plugins<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create custom pages, a blog, and a storefront<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And you can do it all without knowing any coding languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A custom design<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By building your own theme or customizing an existing theme, you can incorporate color schemes and motifs that tell future readers exactly what your author brand is about. Even if you know nothing about design you can get a professional look by adapting an existing theme. A beautiful website with no web design experience? Let\u2019s go over a few of them so you can make an informed decision on whether or not a WordPress author site is right for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before you get started on your author\u2019s page, consider the\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cost: WordPress.org is free to use, but you still need to find webspace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty: It will probably take you a little time to understand the interface<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Appearance: Without CSS, you won\u2019t be able to fully customize your site.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Are any of these deal-breakers? Let\u2019s go over each point in more detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Finding webspace for your author\u2019s page<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can buy webspace through companies like WordPress.com (a separate entity from the free WordPress.org) or other web hosting providers. We&#8217;ve worked with <a href=\"https:\/\/hostgator.pvxt.net\/c\/7537350\/557998\/3094\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">HostGator<\/a> for many years and can highly recommend them. All major web hosts will offer WordPress integration, though, so you still won\u2019t need to worry about code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll also probably want to secure your own domain name. Some web hosts, such as InfinityFree and Neocities, will offer you a free subdomain. And while we think <a href=\"https:\/\/weareseven.com\/blog\/2026\/05\/22\/authors-when-should-you-choose-a-web-builder\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"100\">using a free web builder is fine<\/a>, we strongly recommend owning your domain name. We\u2019ve used Namecheap for many years and have never had an issue, so we recommend their services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning WordPress<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We would rank using WordPress as a little more difficult than using Wix. But that\u2019s much easier than learning how to code (which would take months, minimum!). Still, the interface takes a little getting used to. We strongly recommend using the official tutorials as well as watching experienced WordPress designers on YouTube before getting started. You can also find guides specifically geared toward using WordPress for authors\u2019 sites, so you can find industry-related tips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Customizing WordPress author sites<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Creative people tend to have very precise ideas about what they want. As a writer, you probably already have an image of how you want your author\u2019s page to look. And while WordPress offers plenty of customization options, there are limits to how much you can do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, we designed weareseven.com first, then designed a custom WordPress theme for the blog portion of this site. We wanted to make the blog\u2019s style indistinguishable from the rest of the website. We did most of it with the basic tools found in the Editor panel. But there were a few details, such as the boarder image we use, that we had to add with CSS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, you should be able to build the WordPress author site you have in mind. Plenty of web developers also build WordPress author sites. This means that once the site is up and running, you can use your WordPress dashboard to make updates and changes yourself, without relying on a third party developer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the option I recommend for people who want more hands-on control over their website, but don\u2019t have the time to learn the ins and outs of designing with WordPress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consider hiring a designer to create an author\u2019s page using WordPress if you plan to\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Publish regular blogs or news updates<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make frequent updates to your site\u2019s content<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep costs low by managing things yourself<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you want to take the reins of your website once it\u2019s live, this might be the ideal option for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-3e41869c wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/weareseven.com\/request-a-quote.html\">Request a Quote<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, if hiring a designer isn\u2019t in the budget, but you still want someone else to craft a beautiful website, we\u2019ve got good news. You can easily buy and install a professionally built WordPress theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Buying a WordPress theme for your author\u2019s page<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sites like ThemeForest offer an almost overwhelming number of <a href=\"https:\/\/themeforest.net\/category\/wordpress?term=author\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WordPress author sites<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After you install the theme, you can use the WordPress dashboard just like you would if you selected one of the default WordPress themes.
